Celebrate National Wine Day by grabbing a glass and checking these vino facts:

 

  • A study by the analytics firm Enolytics reveals that wine o'clock is a real thing. The company studied 2 million pieces of data to determine that wine o'clock begins at 4:45 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. local time. Wine o'clock peaks between 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.

 

  • A survey by Asda reveals that 50% of people feel completely out of sorts when choosing wine. Other findings:

    - 33% of people get nervous about mispronoucing wine names

    - 50% of people don't know where to start when it comes to buying wine

    - 49% of people always buy the second cheapest bottle on the list

    - 20% of people are intimidated by long wine lists

    - 10% of people find good knowledge of wine attractive on a first date

 

  • A Sheraton survey reveals that after a long day of work, 48% of people reach for a glass of wine before their smartphone/tablet (15%) or spouse (15%). Other findings:

    - 29% of people would give up their smartphone for a day in exchange for a premium glass of wine

    - 23% of people would give up social media for a week in exchange for a premium glass of wine

    - 23% of people would give up sex for a week in exchange for a premium glass of wine

    - 60% of people drink wine while traveling

    - 59% of people find it intimidating when speaking to a wine expert

    - 86% of people have drunk a glass of wine that they did not like

    A Great Vinomofo Wine Census reveals that 26% of wine drinkers say they are obsessed with drinking wine. Other findings:

    - 6% of winos have refilled an expensive bottle of wine with a cheaper one

    - 72% of people have bought a wine they couldn’t pronounce

    - 63% of people have felt intimidated by a wine list in a restaurant

    - 64% of people have Googled the price of wine that was a gift
