After The Presidential Debate: Who Is Alicia Machado?

September 27, 2016
After last night's debate everyone is talking about Alicia Machado. But who is she?

The conversation went like this -

Clinton: "One of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest. He loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them. And he called this woman 'Miss Piggy.' Then he called her 'Miss Housekeeping,' because she was Latina."

"Donald, she has a name: Her name is Alicia Machado."

Trump: "Where did you find this? Where did you find this?"

Clinton: "She has become a U.S. citizen, and you can bet she's going to vote this November."

Alicia Machado was Miss Venezuela during Trump's beauty pageant days. After she won the Miss Universe crown in 1996, she gained weight and Trump acknowledges it was a problem.

Machado was 18 at the time and claims to have gained 12 pounds during the days of wearing the crown, but those weight conversations with Trump had an lasting affect on her.

She told the New York Times, "I had anorexia and bulimia for five years, over the past 20 years, I've gone to a lot of psychologists to combat this."
