The Meaning Of Mariah Carey is Mariah Carey’s highly-anticipated new memoir due out on September 29 with over 300 action-packed pages shedding light on numerous hot topics, relationships, and events in her life.

Carey is the subject of a lengthy Vulture profile and gave fans a sneak peek at what they can expect in her new memoir.

She did admit that some content of the book will “surprise even her best friends.” Carey has been wanting to write this book for a decade so it wasn’t some abrupt decision to share her story.

This comes into play as she recounts the controversy surrounding her 2008 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ellen, who has recently come under fire and apologized for toxic workplace behavior, tried to pressure Carey into addressing rumors that she was pregnant. DeGeneres challenged Carey to drink champagne to confirm whether or not she was pregnant.

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” Carey told Vulture.

“I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”

Another eye-grabbing detail was her rumored 2001 fling with Eminem. Em was reportedly “stressed” over what might be included in Carey’s memoir, but she reassured him that there’s nothing to worry about.

“There’s some songs that I can sing in response to that, but I will not do it,” she said.

“If somebody or something didn’t pertain to the actual meaning of Mariah Carey, as is the title, then they aren’t in the book.”
