Maren Morris Reveals She Felt 'Really Isolated, Really Lonely' After Surprise C-Section

The Country star offers perspective on a difficult birth and recovery

Maren Morris laid bare intimate details of her 30-hour labor and resulting C-section during a new video for Little Spoon's Is This Normal series.

"I wanted to do it naturally, but I stopped having contractions, and it was just time to call it, and get him out safely," Maren said. “So I just wish I had done a better job at preparing myself for the shock of a C-section, because the postpartum of a C-section is so brutal."

Morris teamed up with Black Women’s Health Imperative for the video. They are a nonprofit organization helping to protect and advance the health and wellness of Black women and girls.

The Country music superstar and husband, Ryan Hurd, welcomed their son, Hayes, into the world back in March. Maren faced a new physical reality where she depended on Ryan for simple tasks and lost precious time connecting with her newborn. “I had to army crawl across the bedroom in the middle of the night. My husband would have to lift me out of bed. You’re also wanting to hold your baby and breast feed, and pump and all this other s***. So, that was crazy.”

Most of all, Morris felt isolated by the lack of connection with mothers who experienced a similar birthing process. She craved an empathetic ear. “I wish people talked more about their C-sections stories because I felt kind of, like a lot of mothers, just really isolated, really lonely.”

She left prospective moms with a message of hope for the future. “You will come back. You will snap back, and it takes time.”

Meanwhile, baby Hayes is living the fabulous life with custom made “Mommy and Me” denim jackets. Fellow country star Miranda Lambert gifted the pair of fringe happy coats to Maren, featuring both their names embroidered across the backs.

On Twitter, Maren posted a snapshot of baby Hayes modeling his new denim, and shouted out her fellow Country star’s newest number one single, “Bluebird.” “Thank you for this amazing gift,” she wrote. “Love you so much and am so proud of you for having the number 1 this week.”
